The kinetics of conversion of chlorinated phenols (mainly of 2,4,5-tri
chlorophenol) sensitized by rose bengal, eosin, and methylene blue is
studied. It is shown that hydrogen peroxide is formed and a chloride i
on is detached during O-1(2) interaction with chlorophenols. Among the
conversion products are chlorinated hydroquinone and benzoquinone. Th
e supporting evidence for the two-electron mechanism of O-1(2) interac
tion with chlorophenols is gained.
