Abstract
The effect of a fire retarding (binary) Si/SnCl2 system on burning of polypropylene and nylon 6,6 is studied. The system is shown to behave as an efficient inhibitor of gas-phase combustion. Compositions with t his additive not only possess better fireproof properties than the bas e polymers, but also are low-polluting systems.
