Abstract
In recent years the concept of posttraumatic stress disorder has been receiving increasing attention. In addition to some previous publicati ons this article introduces the present german rating and self-rating scales. The instruments are evaluated with regard to reliability, vali dity, and practicability. Criteria for the decision, which instrument should be used, are finally discussed. The necessity of a multimethod approach is highlighted.
