Aim of the study: Long-term results of single stemmed silicone prosthe
ses. Method: 61 feet were revewed after a mean follow-up time of 13 ye
ars. Results: 18 implants (29.5%) have been removed, 7 of them in the
first year after operation. The often impressive radiologic changes sh
owed no correlation to the subjective results but a correlation to tim
e. 1/3, of the patients were not satisfied with the outcome. An averag
e of 75% of the prosthesis was destroyed after 10 years, 93.5% were lo
osened. Conclusion: By reason of the high rate of failure of the impla
nt, we have abandoned this procedure.
