Abstract
PURPOSE: A healthy 13-year-old girl, previously diagnosed with amblyop ia in her right eye, was seen in consultation after her vision continu ed to decrease. METHODS: A complete ophthalmologic examination includi ng visual field testing and optic nerve photography was performed in t he neuro-ophthalmologic clinic, Magnetic resonance imaging study was a lso obtained. RESULTS: Visual sensory deficits and pale optic nerves w ere noted on clinical examination, Visual held testing showed a chiasm atic junctional defect. Magnetic resonance imaging verified a large ch iasmatic mass, histologically proven to be a juvenile pilocytic astroc ytoma. CONCLUSION: Early recognition of signs and symptoms of chiasmat ic lesions is essential for preventing visual loss.
