Using a simple He-5+alpha cluster model of Be-9 we are able to obtain
good agreement with the measured values of the ground-state quadrupole
moment and B (E2; 3/2(-) --> 5/2(-)) and B (E2; 3/2(-) --> 7/2(-)). W
e use this simple model to fit elastic scattering data in 3-channel co
upled-channels calculations and produce predictions for the angular di
stribution of the breakup of Be-9 via the 5/2(-) resonant state at 2.4
3 MeV.
