This paper derives a set of E-independent sufficient and necessary con
ditions for the H-infinity control problem for singularly perturbed sy
stems in a different approach from previous ones. A sub-optimal contro
ller is explicitly constructed. We observe that the controller is also
singularly perturbed, with its fast (slow) part being an H-infinity s
ub-optimal controller for the fast (slow) sub-system of the original s
ystem, respectively. epsilon-independent H-infinity controller design
is also considered. The main contribution of this paper is that our re
sults apply to both standard and non-standard singularly perturbed sys
tems. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
