Abstract
An optically pumped nanosecond laser based on the pi-conjugated polyme r system phenyl-substituted poly-(p-phenylenevinylene) (PPPV) blended into a polymethylmetacrylat (PMMA) matrix has been realized. We presen t data on the pump-intensity dependence of the emission spectra. At lo w pump intensities an inhomogeneously broadened unstructured emission is observed. Increasing the pump power above a certain threshold leads to spectral narrowing, and the output power rises superlinearly. The pulse energies are as high as 6 mu J, and tile tunability ranges from 480 to 545 mn at room temperature.
