The effect of some salts (chlorides, sulfates, and carbonates) and the
ir mixtures in different concentrations on the stages of the denitrifi
cation process has been studied for three soil types (chernozem, seroz
em, and dark chestnut soil). A high sensitivity to N2O-reductase was s
hown. The first toxicity sequence of salts with respect to nitrous oxi
de was given. The antagonism of salts with respect to denitrifying mic
roorganisms in soil was established. The causes of predominant denitri
fication in saline soils were discussed, with N2O formation as its fin
al stage.
