Abstract
We present results from the prototype of a one dimensional detector ba sed on a micro-strip gas chamber (MSGC). A 100 channel MSGC was tested in a high pressure volume filled with Xe-CO2 (80-20) mixture. Individ ual electronic channels counting photons absorbed in the sensitive vol ume were connected to each anode strip. A spatial resolution of about 200 mu m (FWHM) and rate capability of 200 kHz/channel were achieved f or 18 keV X-rays. The detector was tested in a synchrotron radiation ( SR) beam at the VEPP-3 storage ring, and some preliminary results from these tests are presented. We also discuss the next steps towards the construction of a larger MSGC detector for medical imaging and SR exp eriments.
