El. Goldberg et al., DO DIATOM ALGAE FRUSTULES ACCUMULATE URANIUM, Nuclear instruments & methods in physics research. Section A, Accelerators, spectrometers, detectors and associated equipment, 405(2-3), 1998, pp. 584-589
Neutron Activation Analysis (NAA) and Synchrotron Radiation X-Ray Fluo
rescent Analysis (SRXRFA) were used to measure the content of uranium
and a few other trace elements in samples of bottom sediments of Lake
Baikel separated into biogenic (diatom algae frustules) and elastic co
mponents by an aerodynamic method. Uranium is rejected, rather than ac
cumulated by diatom algae frustules.
