Abstract
A method for estimating the temperature and emissivity of dry land fro m NOAA measurements of outing thermal radiation in the 10.5-12.5 mu m transmission window is examined (AVHRR and TOVS measurements). The met hod involves estimation of the emissivity with subsequent determinatio n of the land temperature using a local split window algorithm. Testin g of the method on actual data confirms its efficiency.
