Ai. Bondarenko et al., MULTIPLICITY DISTRIBUTIONS OF ALPHA-PARTICLES PRODUCED IN THE FRAGMENTATION OF RELATIVISTIC NUCLEI, Physics of atomic nuclei, 61(2), 1998, pp. 214-219
The multiplicity distributions of a particles emitted in nucleus-nucle
us collisions occurring in photoemulsion are analyzed for C-12, N-14,
Ne-22, Mg-24, Si-28, and F-56, projectiles with momenta between 2.5 an
d 4.5 GeV/c per nucleon. For all projectiles considered in this study,
the shape of the multiplicity distributions is found to obey neither
a universal law similar to that prescribed by the Koba-Nielsen-Olesen
scaling nor the Poisson law. Qualitatively, the results agree with the
percolation model and may suggest that the fragmentation of nuclei in
volves a phase transition.
