An integrated hardware and software package was developed for the meas
urement of the closure pressure of the teat canal. Emphasises was put
on easy handling for measuring large numbers of animals under commerci
al milk production conditions. The measurement method has a slight sim
ilarity with measuring blood pressure. A calibration was carried out t
o establish the quantitative relationship between the pressure increas
e in the instrument and in the cistern of an experimental teat.
