Abstract
Models are often discussed in terms of how deterministic or mechanisti c they are. These attributes are usually assumed to be independent of the scale at which the model is used, but they are not. Scale also inf luences the validation and parameterization of models. These issues ar e discussed with reference to the papers submitted to the conference i n the context of the scale diagram of Hoosbeek and Bryant [21].
