Abstract
This article describes the complex problems associated with opioid dep endence during pregnancy. Medical, obstetric, and psychosocial problem s are presented. Methadone maintenance for the treatment of opioid dep endence is described in this article. Specific issues of appropriate m ethadone dose during pregnancy medical withdrawal, and the relationshi p of methadone dose and the severity of neonatal abstinence also are d iscussed.
