Abstract
The low-energy part of the surface vibrational spectrum of the Si(111) (7x7) surface has been measured along both symmetry directions using h igh-resolution helium atom scattering. The analysis of the experimenta l data with a simple model enables the identification of contributions arising from the geometrical back-folding of the Rayleigh wave and fr om vibrations of adatoms, in excellent agreement with recent ab initio results.
