The single-crystal X-ray structures of a cobalt(II) compound and of; a
copper(II) compound with chlorophenolates as anions show that the aro
matic chlorides participate in the coordination of the metal ion. The
respective chromophores Co[N2cisO2transCl2cis] and Cu[N2transO2transCl
2trans] have distorted octahedral geometries in agreement with their l
