(PhCH2)(2)GaCl can be reacted with the lithium chalcogenolates t-BuELi
(E=O, S, Se, Te) to the corresponding dibenzylgallium chalcogenolates
[(PhCH2)(2)GaE(t-Bu)](2) [E=O (1), S (2), Se (3), Te (4)]. The reacti
on of Ga(CH2Ph)3 with Te-2(t-Bu)(2) is a further possibility for the s
ynthesis of 4, giving higher yields. If (PhCH2)(2)GaCl is treated with
t-BuSeMgBr, a gallate formation under ligand distribution to [Mg(THF)
(6)][(PhCH2)(2)GaBr2](2) (5) takes place. 1-5 have been characterized
by NMR, IR and MS techniques as well as X-ray structure determinations
. According this, 1-4 possess Ga2E2 four-membered rings, existing in s
olution too, as proved by cryoscopy. 5 consist of distorted octahedral
surrounded Mg2+ centers and distorted tetrahedral gallat ions [(PhCH2
)(2)GaBr2](-).
