M. Sakurai et al., PARTIAL MOLAR ISENTROPIC COMPRESSIONS OF ALKYL ACETATES IN WATER, Journal of chemical and engineering data, 43(2), 1998, pp. 249-254
The ultrasonic speeds in dilute aqueous solutions of eight alkyl aceta
tes (methyl, ethyl, propyl, isopropyl, butyl, isobutyl, sec-butyl, and
tert-butyl acetates) were measured at (5, 15, 25, 35, and 45) degrees
C by means of a sing-around velocimeter. From these data and density
results reported previously, the apparent molar isentropic compression
s of the alkyl acetates were evaluated. The results were compared with
those for more hydrophilic solutes, alcohols reported earlier, and th
e effects of chain lengthening and chain branching of the alkyl residu
es on the compression behavior were discussed.
