Dl. Cassens et El. Schmidt, USE OF BORATE COMPOUNDS TO PREVENT INSECT DAMAGE TO FURNITURE HICKORYROUNDS WITH THE BARK INTACT, Forest products journal, 48(3), 1998, pp. 36-37
Rustic furniture made from small hickory rounds with bark intact is of
ten subject to insect infestation during storage of the raw material a
nd in the finished product. Two different berate solutions were field
tested in this study to determine their efficacy. Both solutions were
effective in penetrating the green hickory bark and outer sapwood. Aft
er prolonged exposure and subsequent storage, all of the controls were
damaged by insects. Only 1 of 28 treated specimens was infected.
