Previous neuroanatomic studies have demonstrated that branches of the
dorsal nerve of the penis (DNP) innervate the anterior urethra. This s
tudy utilized electrodiagnostic techniques to confirm this finding. El
ectrical stimulation of the urethra resulted in responses recorded in
the main trunk of the DNP, and responses were recorded from the urethr
a following stimulation of the DNP. A bulbocavernosus reflex was evoke
d after urethral stimulation. Urethral afferent impulses have a role i
n reflex ejaculatory function. (C) 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
