Abstract
This paper examines the concept of using an array of holes in a substr ate for antenna performance improvement The finite-difference time-dom ain (FDTD) numerical technique is used to demonstrate the utility of t he concept. The results clearly show the substantial radiation perform ance improvement of printed antennas by lowering/controlling the effec tive dielectric constant of a substrate by perforating it with an arra y of holes.
