Abstract
The equations of continuity, momentum and energy are derived, incorpor ating depth-dependent correction factors for velocity distributions ov er compound cross sections. Tt is shown that the friction slope and th e energy slope are equivalent in steady uniform flow but not in unstea dy flow. The difference between the two forms is explained and reasons are given for the preferential use of the momentum equation. Comparis ons of backwater profiles are presented.
