Abstract
In this paper, the physical properties of densities and refractive ind ices have been measured and derived excess molar volumes and changes o f refractive index on mixing have been calculated at T = 298.15 K and atmospheric pressure. Experimental values correspond to the ternary {x (1)CH(3)COOCH(3) + x(2)CH(3)OH + (1 - x(1) - x(2))CH3(CH2)(4)OH} and b inary systems {xCH(3)COOCH(3) + (1 - x)CH3(CH2)(4)OH} and {xCH(3)OH (1 - x)CH3(CH2)(4)OH}. Different polynomial functions have been fitted with the excess properties and their parameters determined. Several e stimation methods are applied to compare the physical and derived prop erties. For the ternary systems, excess molar volumes and ternary cont ributions are compared with previous mixtures. A comparison is made in terms of excess molar volumes and ternary contributions to this prope rty by variation of methylene groups of alkanol component. (C) 1998 Ac ademic Press Limited.
