The partial hydrolysis of titanium tetraisopropoxide in the presence o
f acetylacetone yields the complex )(2)(mu(2)-(OPr)-Pr-i)(2)((OPr)-Pr-
i)(8)(acac)(2)] in which c)((OPr)-Pr-i)(2)TiO((OPr)-Pr-i)Ti((OPr)-Pr-i
)(2)] units are linked into dimers via the bridging oxide ion to form
a ladder-like Ti-4(mu(3)-O)(2)(mu(2)-(OPr)-Pr-i)(2) core containing fi
ve-and six-coordinate titanium and three-coordinate oxide ions that li
nk the two units together through bonds to the five-coordinate titaniu
m atoms. The Raman spectrum shows bands at 521 and 712 cm(-1) that are
assigned to nu(Ti-O) modes of bridging isopropoxide ligands and the m
u(3)-oxygen, respectively.
