M. Kakizaki et al., IDENTIFICATION OF A SEX-PHEROMONE COMPONENT OF THE YELLOWISH ELONGATECHAFER, HEPTOPHYLLA-PICEA MOTSCHULSKY (COLEOPTERA, SCARABAEIDAE), Applied Entomology and Zoology, 33(1), 1998, pp. 5-10
A sex pheromone component was isolated from the hexane extract of fema
les of the yellowish elongate chafer, Heptophylla picea Motschulsky by
chromatography. The activity was examined by attraction in a glass tu
be and in the field. The isolated component was analyzed by GC-MS and
NMR, and its chemical structure was estimated to be 7,15-hexadecadien-
4-olide. The geometric isomerism was determined to be Z by comparative
GCMS and NMR analyses of the isolated component and synthetic E- and
Z-isomers. Synthetic (Z)-7,15-hexadecadien-4-olide demonstrated a pote
nt attractiveness equal to that of two virgin females in the field.
