Abstract
A procedure to investigate the molecular process of DNA repair is desc ribed. Undergraduate students irradiate strains of bacteria with UV li ght to induce pyrimidine dimer formation. Students then qualitatively and quantitatively determine the amount of light and dark repair that takes place. This laboratory experiment uses relatively simple equipme nt and provides opportunities for an inquiry-based approach.
