Abstract
This paper reports the development of a new microassay for phospholipa se A(2) (PL A(2)) [EC 3.1.1.4] using the phenyl valerate carboxylester ases (PVCases) of chick embryo brain as a marker for PL A(2) catalytic activity. The activity of PVCases released from brain membrane fragme nts (BMF) by PL A(2) was determined spectrophotometrically by measurin g the phenol formed from phenyl valerate hydrolysis with potassium fer ricyanide and 4-aminoantipyrine. The enzymes most active on chicken em bryonic BMF were PL A(2) of Naja and bee venoms.
