Bioactive acylhydrazone samples prepared by condensation of 1-phenyl-4
-acylhydrazide pyrazole with benzaldehyde were analyzed by H-1 NMR, ma
ss spectrometry and High Resolution Gas Chromatography (HRGC), utilizi
ng a glass capillary column coated with SE-54 (1%vinyl-5%phenyl-94%met
hylpolysiloxane). HRGC was shown to be a valuable tool for the routine
analysis of the acylhydrazones, and determination of the diastereomer
ic ratio, without need of derivatization and purification. As an examp
le, HRGC was employed to follow the kinetics of formation at the imino
double bond level. of both diastereomers of hidrazone (1a) during a s
ynthetic procedure.
