P. Barjot et al., FLECAINIDE AGAINST FETAL SUPRAVENTRICULAR TACHYCARDIA COMPLICATED BY HYDROPS-FETALIS, Acta obstetricia et gynecologica Scandinavica, 77(3), 1998, pp. 353-354
Fetal supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) associated with cardiac failu
re, confronts the physician with an increased risk of fetal demise, pr
emature labor and difficult neonatal management, with a high newborn m
orbidity and mortality (1). Successful restoration of sinus rhythm by
administration of antiarrhythmic drugs to the mother has been describe
d (2). However, questions about effectiveness have since been raised w
ith these drugs, especially in hydropic fetuses. An efficient, powerfu
l and rapid treatment should then be warranted for such cases, and we
propose to introduce flecainide acetate as first line drug.
