Abstract
The present paper deals with the uniaxial compressive and tensile beha viour of Chunar sandstone and Makrana marble at sub-zero temperature ( 0 degrees C to -20 degrees C) in dry and wet conditions. It was found that uniaxial compressive and tensile strengths of these rocks increas ed with decrease in temperature below 0 degrees C. Both strengths in g eneral and tensile strengths in particular of wet rocks increased more rapidly in comparison to dry rocks.
