We present the first measurements of radiation temperatures and stimul
ated scattering losses in laser-driven, gas-filled hohlraums. They sho
w efficient coupling when applying laser beam smoothing techniques. Sc
attering losses are reduced to the 3% level while the radiation temper
atures increased by similar to 15 eV for smoothed laser beams. We obse
rve peak radiation temperatures in excess of 230 eV in gas-filled hohl
raums consistent with detailed hydrodynamic LASNEX modeling.
