Abstract
Environmental issues relating to air transport are analyzed. An invent ory calculation system for air traffic is developed to determine annua l fuel consumption and emissions. It uses airline data on routes, hour s of flights, density of traffic, fleet mix, and ratings of engine man ufacturers. It was applied to an airline company in Greece. Yearly env ironmental loads have been calculated and show that significant amount s of pollutants are received in areas around airports. (C) 1998 Elsevi er Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
