10TH ANNIVERSARY OF DEEP MANNED SUBMERSIB LES MIR-1 AND MIR-2

Deep manned submersibles ''MIR-1'' and ''MIR-2'' with operating depth 6000 m were built in Finland on joint soviet-finnish technical design project. In December 1987 deep ocean trials of the submersibles were c ompleted and they were accepted by Acceptance Commettee of Academy of Sciences. During ten years 22 oceanic expeditions with the use of the ''MIR'' submersibles were conducted. Different scientific and special underwater technical tasks were solved during the expeditions. Some hi storical sides and brief results of deep ocean research and special te chnical operations with the use of the ''MIR-1'' and ''MIR-2'' submers ibles are introduced in present article.
