M. Amodeo et Lk. Jones, VIEWING ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUG-USE CROSS-CULTURALLY - A CULTURAL FRAMEWORK FOR CLINICAL-PRACTICE, Families in society, 78(3), 1997, pp. 240-254
The authors present a conceptual framework for cross-cultural investig
ation of alcohol and other drug (AOD) issues, including attitudes, val
ues, and behaviors. Elements include cultural views of using alcohol a
nd other drugs, life problems, seeking help, relapse, and re covery. A
cculturation, subgroup identity, and migration are critically importan
t variables in the framework. me framework can be used to view a singl
e culture or to compare several and can help clinicians explore client
s' earliest exposure to alcohol and other drugs, family and community
messages regarding AOD use, and stigma and shame. It can stimulate cli
nicians' thinking about culturally specific intervention methods and f
amily and community supports for recovery.
