The kinematic transmission errors of spur gears can be detected by a s
ingle flank rolling test. This rolling test can be performed very quic
kly and requires little operator skill, so it is suitable for the diag
noses of manufacturing errors. This paper uses the conjugate shape gen
eration method to construct the mathematical model of tooth profiles o
f spur gears that were ground in a threaded-wheel gear-grinder with op
erational errors. A single flank rolling test simulator is developed t
o investigate the relationships between the operational errors and the
kinematic transmission errors. The diagnostic equations are derived u
sing this simulator. The validity of this simulator is verified experi
