A. Bruggink et al., PENICILLIN ACYLASE IN THE INDUSTRIAL-PRODUCTION OF BETA-LACTAM ANTIBIOTICS, Organic process research & development, 2(2), 1998, pp. 128-133
Immobilized penicillin acylase is a biocatalyst suitable for the kinet
ically controlled industrial synthesis of semi-synthetic antibiotics i
n aqueous environments. Amoxicillin and ampicillin are obtained by con
densing 6-aminopenicillanic acid with the amide or ester of D-(-)-4-hy
droxyphenylglycine and D-(-)phenylglycine, respectively. Similarly, th
e cephalosporin antibiotics cefadroxil and cephalexin can be obtained
from 7-aminodesacetoxycephalosporanic acid.
