Fuzzy systems built with spline wavelets can approximate any function
in a general Hilbert space. Since wavelets are used extensively for th
e efficient solution of various types of differential equations, it is
demonstrated that fuzzy spline wavelets can be used for the solution
of the same type of problems. The advantage in using fuzzy spline wave
lets for the solution of such problems is that the solution would enjo
y the excellent numerical and computational characteristics of the fas
t wavelet transform, while retaining the explanatory power of fuzzy sy
stem. The method is demonstrated with the feedforward control of a fle
xible robotic arm. (C) 1998 Published by Elsevier Science B.V. All rig
