Abstract
A new method for the general synthesis of 1,1-difluoroalkenes from ket ones is presented. The procedure involves initial condensation of a ke tone with the difluoro Reformatsky reagent, hydrolysis to form the alp ha,alpha-difluoro-beta-hydroxy acids, followed by cyclization to make the novel alpha,alpha-difluoro-beta-lactones. These are then thermally decarboxylated to form the 1,1-difluoroalkenes. (C) 1998 Elsevier Sci ence S.A. All rights reserved.
