This paper addresses the analysis and design of the fuzzy controller a
nd the fuzzy observer on the basis of the Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy mo
del, The main contribution of the paper is the development of the sepa
ration property; that is, the fuzzy controller and the fuzzy observer
can be independently designed. The numerical simulation and the experi
ment on an inverted pendulum system are given to illustrate the perfor
mance of the fuzzy controller and the fuzzy observer.
