Abstract
Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectral mapping was used to study polymers in human tissue associated with silicone breast implants. Bio materials such as polyesters, polyurethanes and silicone were identifi ed by FT-IR spectroscopy, and their relative locations and distributio ns within tissue specimens were characterized by three-dimensional (3D ) spectral maps.
