Abstract
A 64 x 64 mercury-cadmium-telluride focal-plane array detector attache d to a Fourier transform infrared microscope was used to spectroscopic ally image 5 mu m sections of canine alveolar bone tissue in the finge rprint region of the infrared spectrum. By ratioing the relative inten sities of specific bands across the images, it is possible to obtain s patial distributions of the mineral-to-matrix ratio and mineral maturi ty as a function of distance from an osteon.
