Abstract
Addition of a dinaphtho-crown ether to the components of a chiral meta llomacrocycle affords a [2]catenane as the exclusive thermodynamic pro duct; the reversible assembly process is driven by a combination of zi nc(II)-bipyridyl ligation and pi-donor/pi-acceptor interactions betwee n the electronically complementary aromatic components.
