It has become increasingly evident that growth cone guidance depends o n the concerted actions of cytoskeletal proteins, molecular motors and cell adhesion molecules. Recent studies suggest that modulation of co upling between extracellular substrates and intracellular cytoskeletal networks via cell surface receptors is an important mechanism for reg ulating directed neuronal growth.
