S. Prochazka et al., THE EFFECT OF ABSCISIC-ACID, BENZYLADENINE AND SUCROSE ON GROWTH OF COTYLEDONARY AXILLARIES IN FLAX SEEDLINGS (LINUM-USITATISSIMUM L), Rostlinna vyroba, 43(5), 1997, pp. 243-248
The effect of abscisic acid (ABA), benzyladenine (BA) and sucrose tran
sported from the roots or cotyledons was studied with regard to the re
lationship between the outgrowth of cotyledonary axillary buds. After
decapitation of the apex and excision of one flax seedling cotyledon,
the remaining cotyledon stimulated the growth of axillary bud, while t
he outgrowth of the bud on the side of the excised cotyledon was inhib
ited. Both cotylars functioned as the sites of accumulation of nutriti
ve (sucrose) and regulative (ABA, BA) substances. Sucrose applied to t
he roots was intensively transported and the growth of both cotylars w
as stimulated despite the regulative role of cotyledon. ABA applied to
the roots and/or cotyledon was accumulated in the growing and also th
e inhibited cotylar, however, the growth of cotylary buds was not stim
ulated. BA transported from roots into both cotylars stimulated their
growth. ABA stimulated transport of sucrose from cotyledons into growi
ng cotylars. Transport and distribution of studied phytohormones and s
ucrose were affected by the site of their application and, to a certai
n degree, it also affected their growth regulative effects.
