Abstract
Brief intervention is a clinically-based, cost effective, time efficie nt intervention designed to counsel nondependent drinkers about strate gies to reduce their alcohol consumption. The ultimate goal of brief i ntervention is to prevent future alcohol-related injury and health pro blems. This focused and time limited intervention is designed for use by health care providers in their ongoing daily practice. Patients who recently experienced an alcohol-related injury are particularly recep tive to brief intervention.
