Abstract
We describe the construction of amplification primers designed to targ et a portion of the mitochondrial cytochrome b locus in a variety of m olluscan taxa. Combinations of two sets of primers successfully amplif ied cytochrome b from several species of gastropod, bivalves, and ceph alopods. Sequence analysis of these amplified products revealed nucleo tide diversity in small samples within several of these taxa. We discu ss the utility of these primer sets for studies of intraspecific phylo geny in mollusks and potentially other invertebrates.
