Abstract
A simple analytical expression of the field at the bottom of a perfect ly conducting grid is given owing to a modal analysis. It permits one to determine the parameters of gratings (groove width, period and heig ht) for which the transmitted orders have symmetry properties. Both tr ansverse electric and transverse magnetic polarizations are studied an d the extension to finite conductivity and non-lamellar shapes is addr essed.
