Rd. Adams et al., THE COORDINATION AND STRUCTURE OF A THIOLATE-TERMINATED MOLECULAR-SCALE WIRE LINKED TO A TRIOSMIUM CLUSTER, EUROPEAN JOURNAL OF INORGANIC CHEMISTRY, (4), 1998, pp. 429-431
The molecule (p,p)-HSC6H4C=CC6H4C=CC6H5 has been attached to a triosmi
um cluster and characterized crystallographically. The complex Os-3(CO
)(10)(mu-H)(mu-SC6H4C=CC6H4C=CC6H5) (1) was obtained in 49% yield from
the reaction of the thiol HSC6H4C=CC6H4C=CC6H5 with OS3(CO)(10)(NCMe)
(2). The sulfur atom bridges two metal atoms on the edge of a triangul
ar cluster pf three osmium atoms. The three aryl rings are nearly copl
anar. The ligand is 18.27(2) Angstrom in length from the sulfur atom t
o the para-carbon atom of the third aryl ring. This compound may serve
as a model for the coordination of thiol-terminated molecular wires t
o metallic probe surfaces.
